Trimming own hair?

Right, I can't afford salons atm, as I'm a student and very tight on money right now, also the only hairdressers/salons where I'm living are stupidly expensive (with or without student discounts!)

Mines starting to split and look straggly and I can't bear it, and I haven't got any friends willing to do it for me :o(

I just want to know whether anyone cuts their own hair, any tips on doing it, and whether it's a good idea or not?!

I'm a hairdresser and it's difficult to cut your own hair.....try a beauty school w/ the instructor next to your chair( insist)

oh, sweetie, no. trimming your own hair is a total no-no. i'm a hairstylist, and i still sit in a chair every month or so and let someone else cut it. there has to be a budget salon somewhere in your area. the ones around here are called famous hair, best cuts, smart style (do you have a super wal-mart? smart style is in wal-marts) great clips. there's super cuts around america, there's master cuts. i'm sure you can find a "cheap" salon in your area. you don't have to go high priced to get a high priced look.

i wouldnt do it...have u ever cut ur own hair or anybody elses??...i just dont think its a good idea b.c if u f*ck it up ur just gonna have to go to a salon anyway.....just save up some money and let her hair be for a few weeks until u can afford a trim....it wont be THAT much money...and in my opinion its worth being broke for a few days to get my hair cut...

I read this here last noc. wet your hair equal amounts on each side. comb hair forward over your face. trim small amount at a time. Remember when hair dries it will look a little shorter. Good Luck

dont trim ur own hair cuz u have no idea what it will turn out like. sometime u can go to beauty schools. they're cheap and u can get a decent cut. look around, u'll find someplace! good luck!

Isn;t there a Fantastic Sams, or Cheap Cuts or something in your area? you don't want to cut your own hair. You need really SHARP sheers, and they can become very expensive. If you don't have great scissors, your hair will end up looking worse!

Get a flobee. I have been cutting my own hair for fifteen years now. Takes only about ten minutes, that's it and your done.

I agree trimming your own hair is usually not worth it. I think Super cuts/Fantastic Sam's charges under 10 bucks. Believe it or not, you CAN go to a Barber!!! Yes, you can. If all you are wanting is a trim. Cosmetology schools are usually near Colleges, and I am sure they probably have a low rate so they can get the practice.

It depends on what you hair is like. If it is very long, very curly, or generally hard to manage, you will probably not have good results.

Mine is fairly straight, and I have been cutting it for years. I give it a trim every couple of months. I go to a salon 1-2 times a year, just to make sure I'm not looking to bad! Seriously, I think my hair looks better when I cut it, than when a stylist does it.

I wash my hair first, and get it mostly dry. I start at the front and top, and work my way back and then down. A couple of days later, I go over it again, just to make sure there are no forgotten lost hairs.

my hair is down to the bottom of my butt and i trim my own all the time and its even. but i wouldnt advise others to do it.
